The MP5 along with the M4 is the staple of the Airsoft world.  These are simple and effective AEGs.

Stock

There are 2 stocks in the picture the A4 and the A5.  The A4 is the Full stock and holds a large battery, it has a good solid feel to it and works well when shouldered for sighting.  The A5 is the retractable stock, this is quite nice with a little lever that allows the stock to retract or be pulled out.  The only problem I have with it is that it feels a bit flimsy and wobbles a bit when extended.

Receiver

Mine had an ICS metal receiver and was VERY nice, absolutely solid.

Pistol Grip

The pistol grip is very comfortable and has a nice feel to it.

Selector Switch

Now this I had a real problem with (so much so that I sold the MP5 in the end).  It has a selector switch on both sides but I had a problem: whenever it was set to full auto my knuckle would push against it when firing and set it to semi auto.  This is not much good in a fire fight when you really don't want your gun to stop firing!  It is worth noting that I do have big hands and most other people don't have this problem.

Mag release

The Mag release is nice and works well as you can release them mag while pulling the mag out with the same hand.  Although I did find it felt a lot less refined than the AK or SG550 release, but that's just me.

Mag

The mags are nice, if a bit long.  They don't hold as many BBs as I'd like but hey, that's why I have an AK47 ;o).  They have a nice feel when incerted into the mag well too.

Sights

The rear sight is a spindle with different size holes to look through and the open part for CQB.  The front sight is a pole in a ring type.  This works pretty well for what is needed.  One thing I did note is that the holes hare a lot bigger than the ones on the G3 series but then they are designed for CQB rather than field assaulting.

Foregrip

On the A5 this holds the small battery, on the A4 it holds nothing.  The original moved about a little to much and didn't feel very secure.  The Surefire Flashlight grip seemed to be a much better fit and was very useful in the dark.  The strip of rubber down the side of the Surefire grip is a pressure switch to light the flashlight, very nice indeed.

Hop lever

The hope lever is a very small lever just at the back top on the foregrip and works quite well.  It can be adjusted while firing which is sometimes quite handy.

Cocking lever

The cocking lever does nothing practical but can be pulled back and locked like the one on the real thing.  The only problem is that the lever is quite weak and I have seen quite a number of MP5s with them snapped off.  I believe that Marui have fixed this problem in the latest versions of the MP5s.

Conclusion

This is a nice, simple AEG that works well in all situations. It is light and small enough to be used in CQB but has the punch to be used in woodlands too.  The A4 with the large battery is probably the best option as with a good sized battery you won't have to change it with an entire days skirmishing.

Personally I'm not that keen on the MP5 because of my problems with the selector switch, I suppose I could solve that by removing one of the selectors but I would rather just use a different AEG :o)
