Precursor

I finally decided on getting a silencer, more for the look than the sound suppression (after all the talk about online on this issue).  Marui had just produced this little beauty so it was a toss up between this and the Knight SOCOM, but this won.  And I am not disappointed.  There are a couple of issue that need sorting out before I get in to the review though, these are Sound suppression and inner barrel length.

Sound suppression and the AEG argument

There is a great argument in the Airsoft world as to whether sound suppression from these silencers is worth it.  The problem is that there are several factors to the noise that an AEG makes.  The sound comes from the motor, the gears, the piston and finally the air pushing the BB out of the barrel.  The only part a silencer can deal with is the barrel noise, as this is only about half the noise from the AEG it obviously isn't going to help much.  But (and here is the biggy) it does change the sound from the AEG.  In a skirmish the change can be enough to make people think you are further away than you are.  To give you an idea instead of GRPUTT you get GRphuutt (yes, that is the best I can do).  Whether this is something you would find an advantage is up to you.

Longer Inner Barrel

Most people get a silencer for their AEG purely for putting a longer barrel in.   AEG's have thin inner barrels that can be upgraded with tighter, Teflon coated barrels to make the BB a little more accurate.  The longer the inner barrel the better the accuracy.  So putting a silencer on your AEG will give you another 20cm of space for a longer inner barrel.  Of cause this negates any of the sound deadening material inside the silencer so won't change the sound, but on a short barrelled AEG it can be worth it.  Don't expect miracles from a TN barrel though, it just helps a bit.

And back to the review

Looks

silencer2.jpg (19398 bytes)

Well on the looks from this is a real beauty, and looks so much better than the plain rolling pin looks of most silencers.  It's unfortunate that it is not a full replica of the Pro silencer (there are now better replicas on the market), but it does still look very cool attached to practically any AEG.  The hole punched metal outer is well made with some very nice white lettering on.  It does say CAL 5.56MM so I wouldn't put it on an AK47 ;).

Construction

This silencer is light weight but solid as a rock.  It's an all metal tube with a very solid metal base and barrel thread.  There is very little chance you are ever going to break this silencer.

Internal

silencer4.jpg (22067 bytes)

The internals of the silencer tube is a collection of sound deadening foam tubes.   This can be go to by unscrewing the base of the silencer, the thread is the opposite of the barrel thread and can be taken off pretty easily.  The hole in the foam for the BB is wide enough to accommodate a barrel too so you don't have to remove it if you want to use a longer barrel.

Attaching

The thread is 14mm reverse so will attach to any M4, M16, AK47 or G36 without needing any thread adapters (unlike the older MP5's etc).

Conclusion

silencer8.jpg (35379 bytes)

This is a very nice silencer and does the job of either sound suppression or extending inner barrel very well.  It looks very nice when attached but is not an exact replica of the real thing, so is not perfect.  Would I buy this model now, to be honest No.   But only because there are more accurate replicas out there now.  Am I happy that I have bought this, Yes.  It is a very nice silencer that looks and performs well, and is extremely well built.  Would I recommend it, Yes, but point out that it's not exact.
